I've also known others who were unable to adapt to either high school or college because they had not been exposed to an environment where they had to solve organizational and people problems. I think whether home-schooling is good or bad depends on the parents' skill sets and their motivation for home schooling.

Did you hear young Jonathan's speech? He recited a litany of arguments commonly heard on Fox News--a credo of conservative jargon that he obviously didn't learn in a day. I was reminded of Muslim kids reciting the Koran. Perhaps if you also subscribe to the same partisan politics, you don't find that problematic. I do.

What's really at issue here is what should be the purpose of education. If it is, at least in part, to teach a child to think for himself, that's one thing. If it's training him up to believe part and parcel of what the parents believe--whether it be on religion, "New Age" culture, or politics--is something else all together.Citizen Janehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11903609649749774947noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2970904845405131296.post-70925586572661047332009-03-11T12:05:00.000-07:002009-03-11T12:05:00.000-07:00Wow, talk about Evil Knievel leaps of logic! How ...Wow, talk about Evil Knievel leaps of logic! How can you know that this kid's political beliefs are solely the result of "indoctrination" via home schooling and then use that leap of logic as an argument against home schooling because it really isn't education. Guess we will ignore things like the fact that recent winners of national spelling bees and geography contests have been home schooled.

I know a number of home-schooled kids and they are bright, curious, and articulate. They converse intelligently and willingly with adults and peers and can actually get through sentences without the use of such words as "totally," "awesome," and "like."

I frequently see reports of public school teachers who are under fire because they have forced their 3rd graders to participate in some highly partisan assignment. Should we then conclude that the public school system has stopped educating and begun indoctrinating? I don't think so. In any group, you will find people who abuse their power (see it my way, kid, or you get a bad grade) or make bad judgments. I believe most teachers are hard-working and committed to their students.

I am for education wherever you can get it -- public school, home school, charter school, parochial school, self-education.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2970904845405131296.post-49689390111972901052009-03-10T15:58:00.000-07:002009-03-10T15:58:00.000-07:00First a man-child runs the country for 8 years and...First a man-child runs the country for 8 years and now they turn to a child-child.

For more on the Doogie Howser RNC check out my article at:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/warren-holstein/gop-mini-me-no-pubes-no-p_b_173298.htmlAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
