Peter King is Right about Radicalization

For once, I agree with a GOP representative. The danger of violent, “lone wolf” extremists operating in America is real. These are often people with strong but perverted religious affiliations. Examples, unfortunately, abound, including the following:

Timothy McVeigh
Scott Roeder
James von Brunn
Jared Loughner
Seung-Hui Cho

However, King doesn’t need to knock himself out. People with much better credentials than he has study and report regularly on the dangers of radicalization and dangerous extremism.

Those who want to do something about these dangers—rather than simply adding to them by stirring up hatred and paranoia—can donate to the cause here.

How can you be taken seriously on this subject, CJ, when you don't list the names of any Muslims who have committed mass murder in America? It's been clear for a long time that you espouse the popular liberal left bashing of Christians. But to stick your head in the sand and ignore ALL Muslim threat is beyond naive. How many European countries are having problems because of their Muslim transplants who refuse to assimilate?

Allow me a personal example ... on a business trip to New York, my husband was chatting with the Muslim cab driver, who was trying to lobby for a bigger tip by complaining about his economic condition. When asked if his wife had a job (since they had no children), the driver said he would NEVER allow that. In fact, he LOCKS his wife in their home when he is at work, not allowing her out at all. He said, "in MY country, that's the way things are done."

Well, all I have to say is now that he is in MY country, maybe he should reconsider some of his beliefs. How come liberals never have problems with the way Muslims treat women? (Covering from head to toe, genitally mutilating, stoning, beheading.)

As a little exercise ... can you name 5 to 10 countries around the globe that are having major problems? How many of them are Muslim countries? How many are Christian countries?

Hi, Idna,

First, I have nothing against Christians. My quarrel is with those fundamentalists and evangelicals--and there are many of them--who have been sipping the Conservative "Cool-Aid" for the past 30 years. The moneyed interests and their political propaganda machine have successfully sold untold millions of them the notion that it's all about abortion--when, in fact, it's really all about ensuring that the middle class continues to languish (or worse) and the very, very rich continue to suck money out of the economy with a few constraints as possible.

As for your cab driver, I know lots of so-called Christian men who routinely beat their kids. That doesn't mean they'll go out and bomb something. Ignorance and general meanness are social issues that need to be addressed--socially.

Peter King's hearing is based on ignorance, false generalizations, and zenophobia--another form of ignorance and meanness that needs to be addressed politically.

CJ, you say "Peter King's hearing is based on ignorance, false generalizations, and zenophobia."

How would you characterize Eric Holder's interview with ABC's "Good Morning America" last December, where he spoke of the ongoing fight to protect American national security and expressed his growing concern with the threat of homegrown terror - a danger which he said "keeps me up at night."

"What I am trying to do in this interview is to make people aware of the fact that the threat is real, the threat is different, the threat is constant," Holder told ABC's Pierre Thomas.

"The threat has changed from simply worrying about foreigners coming here, to worrying about people in the United States, American citizens -- raised here, born here, and who for whatever reason, have decided that they are going to become radicalized and take up arms against the nation in which they were born," Holder added.

The attorney general said that of 126 people who have been charged with allegations related to terrorism in the past 24 months, 50 had been American citizens.

Interestingly enough, all these 126 were ... wait for it! ..... Muslim. So were these statements by Holder based on 'ignorance, false generalizations, and zenophobia?'

If you say no, then why is Rep. King's investigation using this same information so reprehensible to you? Why pretend that the issue doesn't exist?
